Considered to be the highest crest along the North Atlantic coast, the Cadillac Mountain peaks at 1,532 feet, it is often described to be a rose-colored mountain owing to the fact that it is composed mostly of pink granite. Looking to the southeast of Mount Desert Island smaller islands may be viewed from a distance. These islands are called the Cranberry Isles. Unlike Mount Desert Island, the Cranberry Islands are not connected to the mainland by a bridge but rather, ferries and water taxis take people to and from these isles.
